Daily Devotional for June 6

June 6                                                               Luke 17:11-19

" 'Healed!' he said. He said we are healed! 'Go show yourselves
to the priests.' That's all it takes. So many years of suffering
and being outcast. 'Healed!' What a wonderful thought!

"I can get a job, find a spouse, go into stores and pubs. I'll
be normal like other folks. 'Go show the priests,' he said. Let's
show the priests. I wonder who that Jesus was who told us go?

"Where are you going, Benjamin? He said to go show the
priests. You're going back! Why? Don't go, Ben! To be pro-
nounced clean we must show ourselves to the priests. You're
disobeying the one who commanded us to go. Ben, the priests!
Oh, well. What do Samaritans know of God's ways anyhow!
Poor Ben."

All the lepers have been healed; they are free to go their own
ways. But one is turning back to seek out Jesus and to thank
and praise God. This man is truly healed, for he is seeking to
begin relating to God rather than hurrying off to seek
pronouncement from the priests. Not only has his body been
healed, but his eyes have been opened to the source of this
blessing.

As I am created in body, mind, and spirit, so my healing takes
place not only in body, but also in mind and spirit. The
direction my life takes is far different if I do not relate to God
when my body is healed. I can choose to go my way, or I can
choose to go God' s way.

Think about the leper who turned back toward Jesus. Imagine
yourself turning back from your plans for today. Take a
moment to thank God and give praise for the healing you have
experienced at all levels - body, mind, and spirit - as you
start off on today's journey toward deeper relationship with
God.
