Daily Devotional for December 25
December 25 John 3:31-36
The Feast of Christmas
What kind of God is born as a poor baby in an insignificant,
backwater part of the world? Jesus is Emmanuel, "God with
us." This God is a God for the people.
What kind of God is celebrated by giving brightly wrapped
presents to each other? Jesus, who grew up to give the ultimate
gift of his life for us, is God's greatest gift. This God is a God
who gives.
What kind of God's birth is noted by a star in the heavens?
Jesus is one with God the Creator, who made the earth, sun,
moon, and stars. This God is the Creator who brought forth
everything that has been made.
What kind of God is born in a stable, of poor, common parents,
with only shepherds and stablehands in attendance? Jesus told
us that when we minister to "the least of these" we minister
to Christ. Jesus bids us heal the sick, feed the hungry, minister
to the oppressed, clothe the naked, and visit those in prison.
This God is the God who brings liberation to the oppressed.
What kind of God has foreign royalty come to the stable birth-
place to worship? Jesus came not just for one chosen people,
but that all people might become the chosen of God. This God
is the God of all!
What kind of God is born a human and later dies and is raised
from the dead? Jesus Christ - Saviour, Shepherd, and Friend.
This is our God!
Merry Christmas!
Beloved Saviour, today we celebrate
your birth and all that it means to us and to
the world. Happy birthday, Jesus! Thank you for
being our God and Saviour. We rejoice
in being your people. Amen.
