Daily Devotional for April 26

April 26                                                               Luke 8:16-25

               Nightlight

                       The child startled, woke
And dragging blanket, bear, and fear,
                 Slow carefully peered the hall.
                          Saw that blessed light
               Reach from under (parents') door!
                     "Did the thunder wake you?"
He hardly hears, but burrows narrowly between
                Familiar smells of grown-up PJ's
And doesn't catch the smile pass between them.
Nor they the look of untold safe and grateful
That leads him back to sleep.

Dear Creator,
Help me to know precisely where to place this lamp. Not under
a bushel. I understand that part. But to shine it in the face of
those who have lived long in the dark, wouldn't that be show-
ing off, not to mention cruel? Better than that, help me to
remember the times I have been grateful for a light shone at
my feet, so I could better see the path. And in those times when
the path seems more muddy than clear, when it seems impos-
sible not to give it up, remind me that once there was one very
like myself whom even the winds and the seas obeyed. He
walked the path on darker nights than this, and held his light
behind so others could see to follow. [He IS the light to follow!]
