Daily Devotional for April 2
April 2 John 14:1-7
Companion
He seemed a picture. (Postcard, really.)
Fishing, embraced by sunrise.
He startled to the footstep of a child.
I startled to the suddenness of
Finding him on the bank.
I said my father spent Saturdays at work.
He said his Dad had taught him how to fish
And play the banjo.
(The banjo, wow!)
He thought I'd probably like his Dad.
(The banjo. Wow!)
I was four, and years have only
Crystallized the privilege.
Spending a morning
With the gentle conversation,
Humor, calm, and welcome
That he offered.
Dear Creator,
Please help me recognize in Jesus, and in others I find around
me, the gentle touch of your hand and the wisdom of your
voice. I know that there is always room for me in your world
and that a place has been prepared for me. May I approach
it one day in humble expectation, as one who believes grate-
fully what has been promised.
