Daily Devotional for April 20

April 20                                                               Luke 6:39-49

              Neighbor

It was all he could do not to slap that child.
                             Impudent little bastard.
He had heard the children fighting in the alley -
                                     Such a racket -
And had pulled them, arm from shoulder,
                               Away from one another,
Carefully explaining how to share a
                           Ball and glove. (Actually,
Quite a patient lesson, he had thought.)
And the child asked to play in his yard.
"No (politely), that would not be possible."
Who were this child's parents to let him
                                Learn such impudence?
The child almost spat the words:
"How do you know about sharing a glove when you keep
Your big fat green grass yard to yourself?"
It was all he could do not to slap that child.

Dear Creator,
I want you to be always forgiving and generous with me. I
am not inclined to be so with others. It would serve me right
if you were only as generous with me as I am with others.
Always you offer before I ask, and more than I imagined. Help
me imitate your example and memorize your generosity.
