The one reason that Stan comes to mind is that, upon his death, he willed a large sum of money to MCC Pittsburgh.  Without his gift of love, our church would be a very different place today.

Like many of us, Stan attended another church (what is now St. Andrew's Lutheran), but wanted a more gay-affirming worship experience so joined MCC in the early 1980's.  He was the music director for MCC through the 1980's and started a choir at MCC and even did a production of Godspell here around 1983 or 1984.  (He said he had "found Jesus" at the Holiday Bar, meaning that that's where he got the guy that played Jesus in the production!)

MCC was very important to him  because he could be "out" and worship at the same time.  He rarely missed services and was very devoted to  MCC.  Stan was very social and he was the one who initiated the  going out  to eat  after the service.  The group used to go to Berto's on Baum Blvd,  Traveler's, NYNY, and (as now) The Elbow Room.

(Stan also was Renaissance City Choir's first  choir director.  RCC may have been his  brainchild in the mid-80's.  In those early years of RCC he held holiday concerts at  Calvary United Methodist church on the North Side and at Carlow when he was director.)

[The above notes are from Rich Varner, a friend of Stan's and former MCC member.]
